“Clubhouse Embankment Repairs“
Contract works started on Tuesday 27th July to repair damage done by the winter flooding on the front of the clubhouse and also provide future protection for the building’s foundations .
We estimate the contractors will be finish his work by the end of week.
The work will be carried out with full respect to the environmental designation of the site as a Special Site of Scientific Interest (SSSI) within a National Park.
Members may have noticed the yellow chalk on the ground marking out the area affected by the work. There will be several gabion baskets (see below)filled with granite stones placed at the foot of the south and east faces of the front embankment to strengthen and protect these slopes from further floods and the embankments will be reshaped to provide a 2.5m flat area and then a more gradual slope down to the top edge of the baskets. The whole area will be laid with special “Grassfelt” on the new bare topsoil and should look like a new lawn! Grassfelt is natural grass grown in a felt membrane. Paving stones laid on top of the gabions will provide some handy extra seating at the front.
Whilst the work is taking place the area of the works will be cordoned-off, and we respectively ask members not to enter the area. This important because the Grassfelt needs some time to become fully established
