RYA Status

Llangorse Sailing Club is a volunteer led club, set in the beautiful surroundings of the Brecon Beacons National Park. We are proud of our status as a recognised RYA Training Centre, RYA OnBoard Club .

Here are the RYA’s definitions of what those mean and thus a taste of what we provide for members in addition to being a wonderful place to just mess about in boats.

RYA Training helps clubs to develop sailing and encourage newcomers, ensuring they receive the best possible introduction to the sport of sailing. Experienced and trained instructors use tried and tested teaching methods which mean participants can recognise the RYA Training tick mark as an assurance of both safety and the quality of teaching and learning. RYA training programmes are only run at Recognised Training Centres by suitably qualified staff or volunteers, following the relevant national syllabus using appropriate, well maintained equipment and with suitable safety support always available.

OnBoard is the RYA’s link programme that aims to introduce more than 500,000 children to sailing in the UK over ten years, and keep 10% as regular participants in the sport. OnBoard is delivered through OnBoard Development Officers, who work closely with RYA Regional Development Officers and aim to provide opportunities for RYA Training Centre clubs to adopt local schools or youth organisations; help them run “first experience” sessions and integrate children into the sport and the club thereby increase the number of young people sailing and windsurfing regularly.
